Colossians 3.4-7

Paul gives stark advice for how to deal with sexual sin, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature” (Colossians 3.5a). All sexual sin needs to be placed in the “guillotine” of obedience. It needs an execution. This begins with our heads and our hearts. Though it’s physical, we generally turn to sex as a fulfillment of something much deeper. We want to be whole, be at peace, be in control, or be wanted. For any number of reasons, we turn to sex to satisfy.

The reality is, putting to death sexual cravings is not something that can be done on our own. The Apostle Paul commands the Colossians to “teach and admonish one-another” in living out of the new identity. Restoration was communal activity. As we continually yield our sexual desires to God, we begin to experience freedom and healing. Watch the clip below as Pastor Jeff Manion reminds us of this truth.

Jesus gave us an incredible gift to help us practice sustained obedience—the church. The body of Christ exists to build itself up in love. One way you can begin your process of restoration is to reach out to your church for healing. Our care ministry is equipped to help you take the next steps in surrendering your sexual activity to God. Please contact us at care@adabible.org. Allow us to travel with you as you begin to live out the life purchased for you in Jesus Christ.
