Ephesians 5.22-33

Being a loving husband or a respecting wife will often be hard. It’s especially hard if your spouse isn’t responding in a way you hoped. The Scriptures make it clear the love and respect message is a powerful witness to an unbelieving spouse (1 Peter 3.1-2 and Hosea 3.1). Yet, if your primary motivation for loving or respecting is to get your spouse to change, you will probably be disappointed.

The good news is when God tells you to love/respect, don’t think your obedience will be wasted. If you give God obedience, he will use it in your life and in the lives of others, whether you see immediate results or not.

We should obey to serve God. This is a repeated theme of Colossians 3.18-24, as Paul mentions it five times. A “New You” is available through an obedience rooted in the service of Jesus. Jesus is the central character of Colossians.

Today, as you consider an obedience rooted in service to Jesus, return to one of the worship songs from our services this past weekend as you watch “Only King Forever” by Elevation Worship.
