Text: Psalm 1

“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The next best time is now.” ~ Chinese Proverb

Cultivation of a life worth having doesn’t happen by accident. Like a tree with deep roots and healthy fruit, the “blessed” life is the result of years of sustained growth. Psalm 1 reminds us this happens by delighting in God’s Word day and night (Psalm 1.2). It’s a practice of quieting our hearts before God to hear from him and be heard by him.

At Ada Bible Church we believe this happens powerfully in what we call The Chair: that time when we shut out all the noises of life to listen to God and share our hearts with him.

Proverbs 4.23 reminds us to “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” We live from our heart! And the way to cultivate a life worth living is to nourish and guard our heart. Because the trajectory and quality of our life is tied to the time we invest in The Chair, this time is critical.

No matter where you are in your journey, today is a great day to begin the habit of silencing the noises of life in order to spend time reading God’s Word and praying to him. Maybe you once practiced this habit, but have (for one reason or another) stopped.

As you welcome God into this new week, we’d like to invite you to start, or restart, this habit. Commit today to spending at least three days this week in The Chair (about 15 minutes each day). Allow God to speak into your life and take time to share your heart with him.
