Text: 2 Peter 3.1-10

One of the scariest words in Christianity is judgment. It’s often associated only with anger, burning, and suffering. It’s not usually associated with things like hope and peace, even though it is talked about exactly that way in the Bible.

The Day of Judgment, when Christ returns to the earth, ought to fill Christians with hope as we expectantly look for it. God’s judgment will set everything right in the world as he removes injustice and pain and places everything back under his authority, the way it was in the beginning.

But God’s judgment is not yet here. His desire is for “everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3.9). God displayed his love, grace, and mercy through his son’s sacrifice on our behalf. Because of this, we can be made new in the same way he will one day make the whole earth new.

As a reminder of God’s transforming power over our hearts, and eventually the whole earth, listen to the song “All Things New” by Elevation Worship. Reflect on how God has, and can, transform your heart.
