Text: 1 Peter 3.15
A tandem bicycle can’t be ridden well by one person. The front biker (captain) keeps the balance, steers, shifts the gears, and brakes. The second biker (stoker) uses a map to give directions and pedals hard to keep the tandem moving forward. Both positions are needed for the bicycle to operate effectively.

Working in tandem through transformational teaching and humble serving is the dynamic duo that released God’s power in the early church. Godly men full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, were taking care of physical needs while church leaders stayed committed to teaching Jesus’ new way of life.

By understanding that God showed his mercy offering salvation through Christ to imperfect people, Jews and Gentiles alike were freed from the bondage of trying to earn God’s approval (Romans 5.8). By sharing salvation and teaching, church leaders were sharing God’s mercy.

The message of the cross, as well as serving, must be a part of the way we minister to others. It may seem easier to do good deeds, but God commands us to share his mercy with others.

Today, memorize 1 Peter 3.15 in the New Living Translation, “…you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” Use this as motivation to share what you know!
