Beyond the Weekend

May 15 | The Smaller Picture

Text: Romans 12.9-21

Yesterday we “zoomed out” as we looked at the big picture of serving in word and deed. But there’s also a smaller picture as we “zoom in” on each believer. Each of us is called to make a difference for Christ with our words and deeds. James 2.17 (NLT) tells us, “. . . faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it’s dead and useless.” Jesus tells us, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters” (Luke 11.23). Our words and deeds matter.

As we trust Christ with our words and deeds, the Holy Spirit is freed to perform great things through us. If we don’t, we can stifle God’s power in our lives.

Today, ask God to show you where you’re out of balance. Examine your heart and confess if you find it easier to say nothing or do nothing. Then take responsibility to make a change in your life this week as you serve the person you’re looking out for.
