Text: Hebrews 1.1-4

The God of the universe isn’t far off and doesn’t hide himself from us. In fact, he does just the opposite: he’s already fashioned innumerous windows in our world from which his character shines forth. While some of these windows are general marks of his craftsmanship, others uniquely reveal himself in profound and specific ways.

When God reveals himself generally through creation, we see his greatness and glory. But it’s through Scripture he reveals his wisdom and plan for us and then, ultimately, through the person and work of Jesus Christ where he reveals his love, grace, and mercy. This past weekend Marcus Bieschke, lead pastor of Willow Creek Community Church of Crystal Lake, Illinois, explained how the lyrics of Psalm 19 call us to respond in worship to both God’s general and special revelation.

We don’t have to look very far to recognize the work of God around us, but we do have to look (both in creation and in Scripture). Catching a glimpse of him should elicit worship and breathe life into our souls. Read Hebrews 1.1-4 and recognize the ways God has already revealed himself to you. Then read this 17th-century Doxology aloud as a declaration of praise.
