June 16 | Hard Miles

Text: 2 Corinthians 11.26-28
As we were told by Senior Teaching Pastor Jeff Manion, the journey “from Perga…to Pisidian Antioch” (Acts 13.14) covers some hard miles. This walk is over 100 miles and moves uphill from the coast of the Mediterranean to the mountains. It is physically demanding.

These hard miles Paul and Barnabas travel are prophetically symbolic of the many “hard miles” yet to come as they spread the good news of Jesus. “I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles…” (2 Corinthians 11.26). Rather than the exception, this seemed to be the rule: sharing the gospel is hard.

In twenty-first century America, our “road” is probably much different than that experienced by Paul and Barnabas. While we can be grateful for that, it’s not true everywhere in the world. Today, as you welcome God into your day, read a “hard miles” story from Mexico and pray for these fellow believers.
