June 17 | Keep Moving

Text: Acts 13.42-43
Spiritual growth requires a commitment to keep moving. It’s what Paul and Barnabas tell those in the crowd who apparently believe, “…continue in the grace of God” (Acts 13.43). A good beginning doesn’t guarantee a good ending. When we respond to God’s grace, and he begins to transform us, it’s essential we keep moving forward spiritually.

This is true both for every follower of Jesus and for those who lead them. Not only do Paul and Barnabas encourage those in Antioch to keep moving, but they keep moving as well. After leaving Antioch, Paul and Barnabas travel to Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe. But they then retrace their steps to continue the discipleship of these new believers. They keep moving in the same way they encourage these new believers.

It’s easy to become discouraged, both on our journey with Jesus and with those we’re leading (a person in crisis, a small group member, a family member). The temptation always exists to throw our hands up and ask, “What’s the use?” But it’s at those times we need to remember to keep moving! This leads to this week’s One Big Question: What step of courage do you need to take to keep your spiritual growth and progress moving?
