Text: Acts 13.44-53

Courage is relevant only in the face of opposition. If there’s no opposition, or no fear, there’s no need for courage. Courage is the antithesis of fear.

In Scripture, courage is linked to God’s presence. Because God is present with his children, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we can be courageous and live fearlessly. It’s what Paul and Barnabas did after they experience persecution in Antioch, “So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium.” The result of their courage is a group of Jesus followers “filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 13.51-52).

Today, as you think about courage, watch and listen to the Casting Crowns sing “Courageous.” Use it to remind you of God’s ability to provide the courage you need in the most fearful of situations.
