Text: 2 Timothy 2.2-3

Followers of Christ, satisfied to merely sit in The Row week after week hearing transformational teaching (sermons) are cheating themselves on one of the greatest spiritual joys—being discipled and being a discipler.

The experienced pastor, Paul, described it this way to his protégé Timothy: “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Timothy 2.2).

It’s a process involving both hands: there’s always someone who knows and has experienced less in their faith than you. As you take their hand and pull them closer to Jesus, eventually they’ll do the same for someone else. With your other hand, you lock onto someone further up the mountain of faith than you. This more mature Jesus follower will help you learn and grow.

God gives us two hands and we’re to use them both in discipleship. Today as you spend time with God, ask him to help you identify the people you need to grasp with each hand. Pray about leading a group in one of our ministries this fall or joining a small group if you aren’t in one.
