Text: Matthew 17.1-13

At two key times in the life of Jesus, God the Father dramatically breaks in and announces his love for Jesus: his baptism (Matthew 3.17) and the Transfiguration (Matthew 17.5). The word used here for “love” not only signifies the deep, rich, and profound relationship the Father has with Jesus, it’s the same word to describe God’s love for believers (Romans 1.7).

As the Father concludes his dramatic statement at the Transfiguration he states, “Listen to him [Jesus]!” It’s as if he is saying, “Pay attention!” It’s a wake-up call for all of us as we hear from God in the Row, Circle, and Chair: “Listen to him!”

God’s love for Jesus and for us reminds us that “love receives.” Jesus connected the love he received and the love he was giving to the love he demanded. Today, as you welcome the Lord into your day, focus on God’s love by listening to “Your Love Never Fails” by Jesus Culture.
