Text: Romans 5.6-11

Jesus understands broken relationships—his mission on earth was to restore our broken relationship with God. When Adam and Eve decided not to trust God, disobeying him was the sin that severed their relationship with him. Their sin was then passed along to all people born afterward, “For just as through the disobedience of the one man [Adam] the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man [Jesus] the many will be made righteous” (Romans 5.19).

While our sin makes us God’s enemies, Jesus reconciles us to God through his shed blood on the cross (Romans 5.10a). This reconciliation was so important to God, he was willing to sacrifice his own son to make us righteous and allow us to have the same friendship with God that Adam and Eve had before they sinned. That’s why Jesus is so serious about us being reconciled to one another. It’s our responsibility both to tell people they can be reconciled to God through Christ and to bring reconciliation (to the degree we can) to our own broken relationships.

As you begin this week with God, remind yourself of the sacrifice Jesus made and how this precious gift has reconciled you to God. Then listen to “O the Blood,” by Kari Jobe and meditate on how the reconciliation God offers impacts your other relationships.
