Text: 1 John 2.9-11

Jesus places reconciliation with people as a priority above religious observance. The Apostle John says, “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness” (1 John 2.9). God sees the heart and wants us to be reconciled before we come and worship him. First things first! It’s that important to him.

While reconciliation can be difficult, we need to mend our relationships before we offer our heart to God. To love him, we need to love people. Reconcile whenever possible. Besides helping you, it will help the other person resolve their issues. By going immediately, you’ll open the door for the Holy Spirit to work in both of your lives. Go, trusting in God, and leave the results to him.

Today, as you begin to put “first things first,” write out 1 John 2.9-10 as the first step toward understanding the importance of reconciliation.
