Text: Hebrews 12.1-11

The author of Hebrews draws our attention to an incredible reality: “Jesus [is] the pioneer and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12.2). Jesus is constantly at work moving us to take on his character and life. And as Pastor Buer reminded us, becoming like Jesus is not a one-time, static action—it’s a process of movement that takes course over our whole lives.

As we move forward to become more like Jesus, we should be encouraged—he hasn’t left us alone in the process. According to today’s passage, Jesus gives us the examples of past Jesus-followers to help motivate us on our journey (Hebrews 12.1).

We also find that discipline and difficulties are some of Jesus’ best tools to shape the most beautiful aspects of his character in our life. So don’t be discouraged or lose heart. And also, don’t get too comfortable where you are because you’re somewhere on the learning curve, and that means movement.

As you start your day, take a moment to reflect on God’s movement in your life and consider what ways he has shaped his character in your life over this past year.  How are you different and more like the Christ? Sometimes looking back and seeing God’s movement in our lives gives us strength and motivation to trust his movement in the future. Thank him for his faithful movement in your life and trust him as he leads you to be more like the Christ.
