Beyond the Weekend

November 13 | Rich Toward God

November 13, 2015

Text: 1 Timothy 6.6-10

Treasure: wars have been fought for it, ships have been sunk, and lives lost in pursuit of that one big windfall that will set us up for life. Yet, Jesus warns us about the treasures of this world—they won’t last. Like an ice cube on a hot day, the treasures of this world will melt away in the vastness of eternity. To be like Christ is to be rich toward God in those things that will endure and go with us into his eternal kingdom.

Eternal riches are things like: daily contentment and trust in God (1 Timothy 6.6-7), God’s forgiveness and redemption through grace (Ephesians 1.7), the merciful love of God (Ephesians 2.4), and good works that God has done through us (1 Timothy 6.18). Everlasting treasures are the eternal things God does through and in us. When we are deeply sure of God’s love, it frees us to live beyond ourselves.

Today as you meet with God, listen to “Enough,” by Chris Tomlin and rejoice that God is, “more than all I want, more than all I need, and all of [him] is more than enough for all of me.”
