Joshua 3.13-17

As the Israelites stood on the banks of the Jordan River, opposite them was the Promised Land and the city of Jericho. God had a plan to bring his people into this land: have the priests step into the flowing water and then he would “cut off and stand up in a heap” the waters from upstream (Joshua 3.13).

While there are some seasons when the Jordan River is tranquil and serene, it wasn’t at this moment. The river was at flood stage and a raging torrent. For the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant, this required extreme faith and demanded they step before they see.

Similarly, God often asks us to wade into moving, choppy waters to test and grow our faith. You may be hesitant to follow—it’s scary not being in control. However, starting anew this year, take the opportunity to “reboot” your trust in God. Perhaps God is prompting you to reengage a difficult family member or step into a new financial situation. It’s in these steps of obedience and faith God loves to reveal his perfect provision.

As you begin your day, take a minute to listen to “Oceans” by Hillsong UNITED. As God bids you step into these moving waters, may you respond to him in faith, trusting him to provide all you need.
