January 19 | Unreliable and Devastating

January 19, 2016

Jeremiah 13.8-11

Renown. Praise. Honor. Israel had a role to play, and it was important. Because of their intimate relationship with God they were supposed to be different—they were to reflect the character of God. They were supposed to show what could happen when people placed their security and significance in the living, loving, strong, just, creator God.

Instead, Israel became just like everybody else. Like Israel, we’re made for a greater purpose. However, like Israel, there are two paths: we can seek our security and significance in God, or we can seek it elsewhere. Where we find our security and significance leads to either fulfilling our purpose, or devastation.

Because idols are unreliable and devastating, we must take them seriously. Today, cry out to God for forgiveness for finding your security and significance in something else. Pray a prayer of repentance asking him to help you change and return to him. For accountability, share your desire for change with your small group or a close friend. Be encouraged knowing God wants to help you.
