Beyond the Weekend

March 8 | The Cost of Redemption

March 8, 2016

1 Peter 1.18-19

1 Peter 1.18-19 clarifies the price paid to redeem us, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

To redeem something valuable, like someone’s life, the cost would be significant. Indeed, the cost to redeem us from slavery to sin was significant—the precious blood of Christ.

The best man who ever lived, the only one to live without sinning, the God-man, paid to get us out of slavery with a thorny crown and three spikes. Jesus didn’t simply erase our sin debt, our sin debt is cancelled because Jesus paid it on the cross. God cancels our debts and they no longer count against us because someone else paid for them—Jesus.

This weekend’s services concluded with “Jesus Paid It All.” Today, remind yourself of the truths contained in that song by listening to Joey and Rory Feek sing about the price Jesus paid to redeem and forgive us in “Jesus Paid It All.”
