Haggai 2.4-5

As the work on the temple continued, and as Haggai reminded leaders and people alike to “be strong,” the prophet gives them the definitive reason why they should do so: God was with them (Haggai 2.4). It’s interesting to note the name Haggai uses for God is the “Lord Almighty.” It was a military title and described God’s command over the armies of heaven. It’s this ultimate “Commander” who was with them!

Over 80 times in Scripture we’re told, in one form or another, “God is with us.” Not “with us” in the sense of a passive bystander who is just observing what’s happening, but actively involved in the process of all we do (including as we rebuild!). It’s his active presence, which we experience through the Holy Spirit, which enables us to “be strong” and move forward as we rebuild.

Today, as you welcome God into your day, listen to “The Lord Our God” by Passion. Use the lyrics of this powerful song to remind you of God’s presence with you as you rebuild.
