Haggai 2.6-9

“On a handful of occasions the Bible repeats something to the third degree. To mention something three times in succession is to elevate it to the superlative degree, to attach to it emphasis of super importance.” R.C. Sproul, The Holiness of God, 1986, pp 39-40.

“I will…I will…I will” (Haggai 2.6-7). God never wanted them to forget he was at work. He wanted them to know something much bigger than what they could see was going on. In fact, much of the blessing promised in these verses would occur long after they were dead and gone.

Notice the little phrase in verse six, “In a little while…” God’s timing is rarely our timing, “…so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55.9). God often works over a lengthy period of time, usually longer than we’d like!

Today in your Chair time, open your hands and offer your best to God. Say, “It’s yours; use it.” And then rest in that, no matter how long God may be pleased to work.
