June 3 | The Danger to Our Soul

June 3, 2016

 Jude 1

The “grace benders” theory was if God has forgiven all of our sins, even our future sins, then it doesn’t matter how we live. They wanted to accept the forgiveness available through Jesus, but ignore the need to make him Lord of their life. This is dangerous territory.

It’s dangerous territory for one simple reason—Jude refers to the grace benders as “ungodly.” He seems to be implying these people are really without God and have misunderstood the offer of grace and forgiveness.

Throughout the Bible we see the connection between receiving the forgiveness offered by God and accepting God as Lord of one’s life. One cannot happen without the other! A life built around bending God’s grace by claiming forgiveness of sins, but not living a life for him, demonstrates a failure to understand grace and forgiveness in the first place.

It becomes clear why Jude takes this threat so seriously. These people are undermining the very essence of what being a Christian means.

Today, consider whether you are taking the offer of God’s grace seriously. Maybe you’ve been bending God’s grace, have outright rejected it, or you just want to know more about it. God desires to rescue you from the devastating effects of sin. If you’d like to have a conversation about God’s free offer of forgiveness and grace, please email us at btw@adabible.org.
