Romans 6.20-23

Relationship precedes rules. This is where God starts as he gives his people the Ten Commandments. Before he details the rules governing their relationship with him and each other, he reminds them of who he is and what he’s done. He is the Lord, their God, who brought them out of captivity, and rescued them from slavery (Exodus 20.2). God was in relationship with his people.

It’s the same for us. Using similar language, the Apostle Paul describes our rescue and relationship, “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6.22-23). We, like the Israelites, have a new identity and a new relationship with God.

More than anything else, the “10” are a call to relationship with God. Maybe you’ve never started that relationship. Or perhaps you need to re-engage. Some of us need to deepen the relationship or give it away. Wherever you are, we’d love to speak with you and help you take the next step. To begin that conversation, contact us at btw@adabible.org.
