Proverbs 5
By creating us as sexual beings, God designed marriage for us to experience this wonderful gift. The Song of Solomon is a book in the Old Testament devoted to the joy and pleasure of sexual intimacy within marriage.

Written in poetic language, it shows the beauty and power of God-honoring sexuality and intimacy. It’s inclusion in Scripture gives evidence sex isn’t just for procreation, but also for a husband and wife to freely enjoy each other. While historically the church has too often taught that sexuality is only for procreation, nothing could be more untrue.

However, sexual sin—turning away from God’s design for marriage—has always been a massive temptation. “Do not commit adultery” encompasses the adamant biblical teaching that sex outside of God’s design is a pathway to all kinds of personal destruction, misery, and enslavement.

As Proverbs 5 tells us, other than drugs and alcohol, no behavior can become more addictive or destructive. In the same way the Apostle Paul wrote, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body” (1 Corinthians 6.18).

Today in your Chair time, consider how your sexual freedom has been affected by the enslaving view of our culture. Identify areas where you are vulnerable and talk with a trusted friend who’s willing to help you be accountable.
