Colossians 3.5-8

Everyone knows how hard it is to control our thought life. In Matthew 5.28 Jesus warns against thinking it’s okay to indulge our sexuality in our minds, showing us where disobedience to “do not commit adultery” begins. Jesus frees us from our sins, yet we eagerly run back to slavery.

Colossians 3.5-8 encourages us to “put to death” and “rid” ourselves of the things that make us stumble. This means we’re to set boundaries for ourselves where we’re vulnerable and not to cross them. Some steps would be: don’t pursue friendships with the opposite sex unless your spouse is included, don’t even glance at porn, read suggestive books, or watch lewd movies and TV shows.

God wants to protect us in the area of sexuality so we can resist temptation and slavery, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness” (Romans 6.12-13).

Today as you meet with God, pray and ask him to make clear the things that draw you toward sexual disobedience. Make a plan to remove those things. Set some boundaries, get an accountability partner you trust, or ask for help from our Care Ministry at care@adabible.org or 622-3175.
