Psalm 142.7

Folding is a term used in card playing when you’ve decided to quit the round and lay down your cards to let what happens, happen. There’s also a time when we’re navigating through stress that we need to “lay down our cards” and fold. It means we’re going to let go of our control and let God take over.

In Psalm 27.13 David “folds his cards” and expresses total confidence in God. “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” When he folds, he’s saying to God, I wholly believe in your goodness to accomplish what concerns me.

It’s not easy to submit control to God when things look bleak. We want him to first show us what the next steps are, then we’ll let go. Yet God longs for us to relinquish our control so he can navigate us through to the other side one step at at time! “. . . the God we serve is able to deliver us” (Daniel 3.17). Letting go of control to an able God is a stress reliever.

It’s okay to borrow from David to express your faith. Today start with Psalm 57 and pray his words to God.
