October 28 | Peace of Christ

October 28, 2016

Colossians 3.15

Most of us would agree we want to be treated with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. But when the table is turned, it isn’t easy to behave this way. Especially when challenged by annoying and hurtful people. It seems impossible.

But in Colossians 3.15, Paul give us a powerful clue, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”  For Christ to rule, you have to let him have control of your heart and admit you can’t do it alone. Most of us can be kind when it’s easy. But add in an aggravating person and our own efforts turn to angry words and actions. Only the peace of Christ can arrest the deathly behavior of our old nature.

It’s because of Jesus we have peace with God, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5.1)  And, having peace with God makes it possible for us to have peace with all others.

Today as you lift up your hands to God, thank him for giving you the ability through Christ to be at peace with Believers as you submit control of your heart to him. Listen to the song “Death was Arrested” and give thanks to Jesus that death has truly been arrested and your new life is in him.
