Colossians 4.7-18

As Senior Teaching Pastor Jeff Manion brought our fall series The New You to a close this past weekend, he used the analogy of a team to describe the local church. While we’ve all probably been a part of a “team” at some point—a baseball team, debate team, or an “Odyssey of the Mind’”team—it may seem strange to view a local church in that way. But it’s a perfect analogy as Paul lists eleven different people who contributed their skills, gifts and abilities to help bring the message of Jesus to those in Colossae. While Paul’s name was on this letter as the author, there were many other people who played an integral part in the Colossians’ spiritual growth.

When we join a church, we join a “team.” When we decide to make Ada Bible Church our home, we join this team. A team that needs us to bring our best to everything we do. Over the course of this week, we’ll look at five of the eleven people Paul specifically mentions at the end of his letter on his team.

But before we do that, we need to take some time to look back over the past eleven weeks and see how God has moved in our hearts and lives. We need to be reminded of those things in our lives which need to be changed, through the power of God’s Spirit, as we become like the Christ.

Today, as we look to embed the teachings of the fall series deep in our hearts, we’d like you to do two things. First, take the time to again watch Pastor Manion’s recitation of the entire book of Colossians. Second, read through your “The New You” journal and look at what you’ve written. Use the recitation and your journal to remind you of the one or two most significant teachings you heard over these eleven weeks.
