Galatians 6.9

Despite his relative anonymity, Tychicus is mentioned five times in the New Testament. He just keeps showing up. When we review the timeline, Tychicus faithfully ministers with Paul for at least eight years. Tychicus seems to be the definition of faithful.

Faithfulness is one of the few virtues that can only be measured over time. Faithfulness isn’t earned in a day or really a year. We see Tychicus’ faithfulness demonstrated over the course of Paul’s ministry. He’s dependable over time. Tychicus is considered faithful because he repeatedly does what is needed.

Pastor Jeff Manion, in The Land Between, writes, “Here’s a thought: What if we lead great lives not by doing great things but by doing good things over and over and over again. What if the path to greatness is repetitive goodness? What if greatness is goodness compounded? I suspect that we arrive at greatness through the lengthy corridor of repeated, small, humble acts of goodness.”

Tychicus demonstrates his faithfulness through repeated acts of service to the church and Paul. Perhaps Paul had Tychicus’ faithful service in mind when he challenged the first century church in Galatia with the following words, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Today, take some time to memorize Galatians 6.9 as you work to grow in faithfulness
