Ephesians 1.4-5

Our Father so desired to bring us into his family that he gave of himself—his own Son—to rescue us and bring us home. – Jeff Manion [Dream Big, Think Small page 100]

One of the most profound realities of the Bible is God’s intent to adopt for himself sons and daughters. As we receive the forgiveness of God through Jesus, we are adopted into his family and become his beloved children.

It’s so easy for us to find our identity in the tasks that fill our lives such as work, parenting or hobbies. But these are not the truest realities of who we are. You are more than the sum of all your failures and successes. What is most true about you is your relationship with God in heaven. Your fundamental identity is your adoption. He picked you out. He picked you up. He brought you home. Watch the clip below as Pastor Jeff reminds us of our identity as God’s beloved children.

It’s important to remind ourselves of this reality daily. Recalling our identity as one deeply loved by the Father empowers us to love and serve from a space of security and significance. As we enter Day 14 of the Dream Big, Think Small journey, pick up your journal and spend time today asking God to fill you, expressing your gratitude to God, and then recalling your core identity as his beloved child. This is the most true thing about you.

This sermon series is a companion to the book by Jeff Manion, Dream Big, Think Small.
