Deuteronomy 6.4-9

Much of faithful living involves bringing ourselves to non-spectacular tasks again and again. It’s the power of showing up. Of listening. Of hearing. Of loving consistently. Act swiftly. Time flies. Opportunity evaporates. ~ Jeff Manion [DBTS pgs 135-136]

Any conversation about faithfulness in our daily lives must include our families. The lessons we learn by observing the life of Samuel, as he served vocationally, can also be applied to those closest to us—our spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, and grandparents. As we give ourselves repeatedly to family members, we can have our greatest impact by reading to our children, cleaning the kitchen, or caring for an aging parent. Day after day, month after month, year after year. It’s faithfulness for the family.

Today, identify one family member who needs your attention or love and write their name on page 136 (Day 19) of Dream Big, Think Small. Then think of an activity, event, or new routine you can do together. Now schedule and plan the event.

This sermon series is a companion to the book by Jeff Manion, Dream Big, Think Small.
