March 20 | The Finish Line

March 20, 2017

1 Corinthians 9.26-27

Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize (1 Corinthians 9.26-27).

Finish well. Sometimes those words can be a much-needed encouragement to an exhausted grad student or weary team. Other times they can seem like a daunting task as a worker stares down five years until retirement, wanting nothing more than to check out.

This week we’ll look at the idea of avoiding “stress fractures” in our life so we can finish well. The week will culminate by looking at the most crucial human relationship—marriage—and avoiding stress fractures in that relationship.

Today as you welcome God into your week, complete the Reflection for Day 21 on page 151 in Dream Big, Thing Small. Consider whether you are still in the race and how you’re dealing with those things that have the potential to keep you from finishing well.

Say the following prayer aloud: Gracious Lord, I confess my daily need for your strength and your grace in my life. I am lost without your daily provision and protection. Please give me a humble and teachable spirit this week. Soften my heart to hear your clear voice. I long to finish well. Amen.

This sermon series is a companion to the book by Jeff Manion, Dream Big, Think Small.
