March 24 | Who Are You Fighting For?

March 24, 2017

Nehemiah 4.13-14

We can be at our most cowardly and self-centered when fighting for nothing more than ourselves. And we are at our most courageous when we are fighting for someone else. ~ Jeff Manion [DBTS, pg 171]

Nehemiah understood people fight for those they love. When threatened, he positions the people around the city in families. He knows a dad will not run if he is fighting next to his kids. In fact, he’ll fight even harder for those he loves. Our life affects those around us. This should motivate us to fight for them. The habits and character we are developing will influence our kids, grandkids, spouse and even people we have not met yet. We need to fight for these people.

In Day 25, on pages 173-174 of DBTS, there is space to list people in three rings of influence in our life: our immediate family, close friends and those we serve or lead. These people should motivate us to develop the habits and character to influence them in a positive way—to finish well.

This sermon series is a companion to the book by Jeff Manion, Dream Big, Think Small.
