What if we just need to be found? This is the story of humanity that goes back to the Garden of Eden with the first humans Adam and Eve. By disobeying God and eating the fruit, they became ashamed and hid. Incredibly, God came searching for them calling out, “Where are you?” Isn’t this our story? We hide in shame and guilt needing to be found.
The meaning, significance, help and hope we’re all searching for can only be found in the One who is searching for each of us. In this series, Reason to Believe, we’ve been studying stories that show the surprising ways Jesus searched for people so they would believe. Mary found him alive at a tomb where she thought he was dead. Thomas discovered he was face-to-face with the risen Jesus after touching the nail holes in Jesus’ hands. This week we discovered that Nathanael believed when Jesus could point out that he saw him under the fig tree.
John shows us that Jesus uses the miraculous and mundane to find us. John writes, “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20.30-31).
