John 9.35-41

“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.” ~ C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

There’s a progression of faith in the blind man’s story. He goes from saying Jesus is the man who healed him to believing he’s the Messiah. The Pharisees are moving in the opposite direction. The more they learn about him, the more determined they are to believe he’s not the Messiah. As Jesus’ light shines, the Pharisees become more blind while the blind man goes from total darkness to gaining physical and spiritual sight.

This weekend, Pastor Manion pointed out the progression of faith—not believing there’s a God, to now I believe in God, to Jesus is worth exploring, to I believe Jesus died for me, to I want to follow him. A person can move forward or backward on the belief scale. Moving forward depends on how willing we are to submit to the truth.

Today consider where you are on the belief scale. Maybe you have questions or have taken a step to believe and trust in Jesus with your life. We would love to hear from you at btw@adabible.org.
