July 18 | Rely on God

July 18, 2017

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the might. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army.”

Read the entire passage: 2 Chronicles 14.7-15

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Asa is ruling the nation of Judah well and God blesses. To prepare for an attack, Asa strengthens their vulnerable cities by building up their defenses,  recruiting and training their armies to fight. Then the opportunity comes—a massive army led by Zerah the Cushite, numbering thousands upon thousands, arrives on their doorstep ready to attack. This is the day they’ve prepared for. But before he engages in battle, he first begs God to be their deliverer and strength. He leans into God and places his dependence on him. God was faithful and the Cushites were defeated. Judah has peace once again.

Like Asa, we can have challenges that surprise us. Even though we may think we’re prepared, it’s essential for us to rely on God. God desires to fight your battles for you. Perhaps it’s a challenging time with your spouse or you’re walking a difficult season with your teenager. Or maybe you’re blindsided by financial challenges or a loss of career. Whatever the case— make sure you are relying on God before you jump in.
