TODAY’S MESSAGE

Uzziah became the king of Judah (southern kingdom) at age sixteen and reigned for 52 long years. Early on he learned he would have success as long as he sought and feared God. During his reign, he had a stellar list of accomplishments. He expanded the borders of Judah and fortified the walls of Jerusalem. He built new towns and constructed forts. He excelled at farming with huge herds and bountiful vineyards. Uzziah even invented war machines to defend the city walls. He commanded elite troops outfitted with armor and weapons. His power is known far and wide.

But there was a chink in his own armor. He became so successful that he stopped relying on God. Consumed by his own pride, he disobeyed God’s Law, was struck down with leprosy and buried outside of the royal cemetery. Somewhere along the way, he stopped seeking God and became propelled by self-reliance.
