TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Uzziah rested with his ancestors and was buried near them in a cemetery that belonged to the kings, for people said, “He had leprosy.”

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Uzziah was successful for decades. His reign saw expansion, the fortification of defenses and a booming economy. Yet he’s remembered as the king who had leprosy. His pride and subsequent punishment damaged his legacy.
It’s scary to think of how easily a legacy can be ruined. A couple can be married many years and successfully raise four children who can’t forget their father’s stinginess and bad temper. A man can faithfully work decades for a company bringing in huge accounts but is only remembered for embezzling extra money for himself. A woman can ruin a lifetime friendship by gossiping and manipulating behind her friend’s back when they both serve on the same committee. The sin in our lives can so easily derail how we are remembered—regardless of the good we’ve done.

Spurts of obedience are not enough. God wants our consistent faith. Our legacy as a Jesus-follower is dependent on our consistent faith and trust, our thankfulness to God and how we respond to correction.
