August 2 | Grow in Wisdom

August 2, 2017

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

[Hezekiah] sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

Read the entire passage: 2 Kings 19.1-7

TODAY’S MESSAGE

After hearing the plans the Assyrians had for the sacking of Jerusalem, King Hezekiah’s second step was to seek wise counsel. Israel is distressed, rebuked by God for their sins and disgraced before their enemies. Hezekiah needs someone who is faithful to God, deeply moral and devoted to prayer. He seeks out the great prophet Isaiah. His request is simple, “Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives” (2 Kings 19.4).

Who we turn to in times of crisis will shape us spiritually. A crisis is no time to rely on those who are cynical, selfish and self-promoting. We need to hear from those whose close relationship with God will give us godly wisdom.

One way to do this at Ada Bible Church is to join a small group. A small group is 6-12 people who meet together to faithfully share life, pursue God and invest in others. A small group can provide invaluable wisdom when life threatens to overwhelm you.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

In just a few weeks (right after Labor Day), we’ll begin registrations for small groups. Make plans now to join an Ada Bible small group as one way to grow in wisdom. Specifically, begin clearing your schedule so that you’ll be able to fully participate in the life of the group.
