Then Hezekiah repented of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem…

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The Scripture has a lot to say about King Hezekiah. The least is that “he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord…Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel,” (2 Kings 18.3, 5). While he experienced success and demonstrated godly character, it’s also fair to say he stumbled across the finish line.

As his life comes to a close, we see God was testing Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 32.31). This test revealed the true condition of his heart. Perhaps because of his great military and financial success, we see a heart characterized by pride. Confronted with his sin, Hezekiah ultimately repents and delays God’s judgment against Jerusalem. By repenting, Hezekiah ended well.

It’s possible that Hezekiah’s success and wealth led him to believe he no longer needed God. It can be true for us also. Our wealth, success and education can lead us to believe, like Hezekiah, we don’t need God. We can solve even our biggest problems on our own.
