TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found.

Read the entire passage: 2 Kings 22.8-20

TODAY’S MESSAGE

In Josiah’s time, Israel no longer knew the book of God’s Law. It was lost in the Temple from lack of use. Hilkiah the priest found it when recording accounts from workmen who repaired the Temple. It was read to Josiah and his heart broke for the disobedience of Israel. He tore his clothes in grief and sent the priest to find out more.

We can’t know what we don’t know. Israel’s worship of foreign gods was a result of forsaking God’s Word. They didn’t read it, which led to no interaction with God, which led to not praying, which led to disobedience. It became less important the further away they got— until obeying their God was just no longer important.

All the tools we need to live victorious lives every day are given in God’s Word, the Bible. Like Israel, we won’t apply truth to our lives when we don’t know it. Like Josiah, we need to start where we are and pursue his Word.
