[King Josiah] gave this order to all the people: “Celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.”

Read the entire passage: 2 Kings 23.21-25

TODAY’S MESSAGE

As our series on “Good Kings” comes to a close, we remember Josiah as one of the best of the good kings. He understood it wasn’t enough to just turn away from what was evil in the sight of the Lord. Not only did he destroy all evidence of foreign idol worship in Judah but he turned toward God by re-instituting the Passover celebration.

God had commanded his people to commemorate their rescue from 400 years of slavery in Egypt. “Observe the month of Aviv and celebrate the Passover of the Lord your God, because in the month of Aviv he brought you out of Egypt by night” (Deuteronomy 16.1). The Passover was meant for God’s people to turn toward him and celebrate his goodness. They defied a command and rejected his desire to be their personal God by ignoring the Passover.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Josiah models a radical and sincere change in his personal belief by reinstating the Passover. God is ready and waiting to bring renewal and revival to your life. Your next step may be to accept what he did for you on the cross (John 3.16). Or it might be to renew your initial commitment. Worship him and draw close to God’s goodness as you listen to Look to the Son by Hillsong.
