TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands…

Read the entire passage: Psalm 19.1-6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Paul uses evidence from nature as he attempts to talk to a pagan crowd about God. Nature is powerful. Approximately 1,000 years earlier, David recognized nature pointed to the greatness and goodness of God. Read what he wrote in Psalm 19. For David, the beauty of the sky and the sun were enough to shout the greatness of God. What we can learn about God through nature is called general revelation.

David spent a significant amount of time out in nature. It seems he felt the presence of God there. Today, many of us feel the same draw to nature. Whether it is spending time on the water, hearing the leaves crunch under our boots on a hike, sitting silently in a tree stand, watching a bobber on a misty lake or tending a garden under the rising sun, we often feel God’s presence when we spend time in his creation. When we experience the awe and beauty of creation, it affords us an opportunity to worship the creator God. It should shout to us the greatness and goodness of God.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Today, consider where you experience God’s presence in nature. Maybe it is slipping silently through lily pads in a kayak, staring at a dew-covered fairway or watching the sun set over the dunes. Try to find a way to get out into God’s creation—experiencing his presence and worshiping him.
