Beyond the Weekend

September 6 | He Transforms

September 6, 2017

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Read the entire passage: John 14:26

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The disciples of Jesus we see in the Gospels and the disciples of Jesus we see in the book of Acts seem like completely different groups of people. The disciples we see in the Gospels are often confused, lack understanding, jump to incorrect conclusions and then ultimately abandon Jesus in his hour of greatest need. The disciples we see in Acts are boldly preaching about Jesus, have his words memorized, show strong leadership and are courageous in the face of intense persecution. What happened? John 14:26 happened.

In a powerful way, beginning on the Day of Pentecost (recorded in Acts 2), God’s Spirit began his work as the believer’s truth teacher. So much so that “When they [the rulers and religious leaders] saw the courage of Peter and John…they took note that these men had been with Jesus,” (Acts 4:13). The Holy Spirit had begun to transform them from who they were to who they would be by reminding them of what they had learned. Their transformation was directly tied to God’s Word.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Transformation, becoming like Jesus, doesn’t happen mystically. It happens as we seek to understand and obey God’s Word. We can’t obey what we don’t know. That’s why our three environments of discipleship—The Row,The Circle and The Chair—are so important. We need to be actively engaged in each one. Today, recommit to actively participating in all three this fall. We will be hosting Group Launch soon. If you are not in a small group (The Circle), register for one now at adabible.org/signup.
