September 7 | He Persuades

September 7, 2017

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

Read the entire passage: John 15:26-27

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Imagine a courtroom. The Holy Spirit, as the Advocate, is giving testimony as if he were a witness in a trial. His testimony is not about a crime or some legal matter. It is about Jesus. It is about the person and work of Jesus as Savior and the importance of speaking to unbelievers about their sin and its consequences. It is about telling others of Christ and the cross as the power of God for salvation.

But the Holy Spirit is not the only one to testify to these things—so do we. As believers, the Spirit desires to work through us to bring others to himself for the salvation of their souls. The Spirit has the power to persuade, but he wants to use our words. Rarely does someone come to Christ without the involvement of another person. This means we have both a challenge and freedom. The challenge is we must be sharing the message of Jesus. The freedom is that we are not responsible for the results. We share, and God persuades.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Today, as you welcome God into your day, pray for God to give you an opportunity to “testify” about what he’s done in your life. But be prepared! This is a prayer God delights to answer.
