TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

Read the entire passage: Acts 16:13-15

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God begins to work as Paul speaks to the women gathered to pray. God opens the heart of Lydia. As her heart opens, she is able to understand the good news about Jesus. It is the divine-human cooperative. Paul doesn’t do all the work in bringing Lydia to belief, and we don’t have to either. In fact, we can’t. Paul obeys by sharing the good news of Jesus, and that’s what we should do as well. We are to share our story of what God has done in our life when the chance comes up with a friend or co-worker. We don’t have to do all the work. We just have to obey by sharing.

The most significant thing we can share with people is our story of how God has worked in our life. Just like Lydia, God opened our heart so we could accept the truth about Jesus. One of the most powerful ways we see people sharing what God has done in their life is through baptism. In Lydia’s story and all through the book of Acts, we see baptism follow closely on the heels of belief. People believe who Jesus is and what he has done for them, and then immediately are baptized to symbolize what they have decided.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Today, take a moment to reflect on baptism. At Ada Bible Church, we believe baptism is an outward expression of an inner change. If you have not been baptized after God opened your heart and you believed, baptism is the next step of obedience in your relationship with God.
