TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Do everything without grumbling or arguing. Philippians 2:14

Read: Philippians 2:14-15

Listen: Philippians 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

We often say at Ada Bible Church, “relationships are messy.” The Philippians knew this all too well. Destructive in-fighting and unrest were tearing apart their church and threatening the gospel. In Philippians 2:2-4, Paul entreats them to “make [his] joy complete by being like-minded …not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Sometimes the most devoted Christians undermine ministry by grumbling and arguing. It can start innocently with not liking a decision or disagreeing with someone’s opinion. But it can become a disease in our heart that spreads wide and deep.

Paul says the cure is not to look to your own interests, but to be focused on the interests of others. When Christians get along with those around them, the gospel becomes attractive. Watch the video clip below as Guest Speaker John Dickson explains the difference between grumbling and constructive criticism.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider your relationships and the way you treat people. Pray and ask, “Father, I confess I want my own way and prefer to get it rather than waiting for you to accomplish my concerns. Help me think of others first, and see them the way you do. Help me to be humble and kind. I’m willing to give up getting my way for the sake of your gospel.”
