TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:15c-16a

Read: Philippians 2:15-16

Listen: Philippians 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The church should shine so brightly it is a beacon to God. Guest speaker John Dickson says sometimes, “Christians have done despicable things in history through self-righteousness and ignorance,” causing the gospel to dim and leaving generations of people to reject Christ.

On the other hand there have been shining lights such as Fabiola of Rome who lived in the 300s AD and served the poor and infirm by starting the first Christian public hospital. History shows that all of Rome went out to mourn her passing.

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God.” (1 Peter 2:12) When we hold firmly to God, our light shines and we draw others to Christ. The way you treat others—matters. Not just for your reputation but for the gospel.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

The way you shine and hold firmly to the word of life gets noticed. It is easy to ignore the people who keep your office clean or bag your groceries. Often, we overlook the elderly, unattractive and annoying people. Pray and ask God, “Help me see the people I overlook, avoid and ignore. I want to be a part of your shining light. Help me reach out with kindness, love and mercy.” Write on page 30 of your journal who God brings to your mind, and how you will reach out.
