TODAY’S MESSAGE
There is a difference between “thankful for” and “thankful to.” We are thankful for our homes, jobs, vehicles, health and family. In fact, we have been building a “thankful for” list all week.
But take it a step further. What if we are thankful to rather than thankful for? “God, I’m thankful for our home, family and health” becomes “God, I’m thankful to you for our home, family and health.”
There is a difference in recognizing that every physical and spiritual blessing we receive comes from our loving heavenly Father.
The Psalmist makes this point in today’s Scripture. While he lists one thing after another in the psalm for which he is grateful, he begins by focusing on the to whom when he says, “Give thanks to the Lord…” (Psalm 107:1). We often start our thankfulness with the for—but we need to begin with the to.
IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
Grab your “Thankfulness List” one more time. Add three more unique things you are grateful for and then do one more thing. Go back through the entire list and change them from for to to. For example, change “Thankful for my home” to “God, I’m grateful to you for our home.” Change “I give thanks for my health” to “Father, I give thanks to you for my health.” In your prayer time today, give thanks to God for all he does.
