TODAY’S MESSAGE

Merry Christmas! Christmas Day is a time of wonderful celebration and activity with Christmas parties, family reunions and wide-eyed kids with piles of presents. However, in the midst of all this – it can be easy to lost sign of the peace and wonder of Christmas.

Activity surrounded Mary, the mother of Jesus, on the night of Jesus’ birth. Luke 2 tells us that Mary and Joseph’s quest for lodging eventually lands them in a stable before she delivered the baby. Then came shepherds from the countryside raving about angels that appeared to them in the sky. The shepherds (finding the scene just as the angel had described) were amazed and praised God.

But Mary responded differently. Luke 2:19 says she “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Like a precious secret of good news, she let the power and wonder of this moment fill the spaces of her heart.

In the busyness of Christmas, we too should take time to treasure and ponder the true magnitude and goodness of Christmas. Celebrate the God of creation now as a baby – the physical presence of the Spirit God. Emmanuel, “God is with us.” Salvation for the world now cooing in a feeding trough.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you walk through your traditions and activity today—take a moment to pause, ponder and treasure these things in your heart, just as Mary did. Pray to God thanking Him for sending his Son on this special day for you.
